A Message from KRUEPKE PRINTING, INC
The Way I See It

I came across this powerful and insightful poem written by Wanda B. Goines (age 92) and thought you would enjoy this message of self-reflection, too.

The Gift Wrap and the Jewel

I looked in the mirror and what did I see,
But a little old lady peering back at me

With bags and sags and wrinkles and wispy white hair,
And I asked my reflection, how did you get there?

You once were straight and vigorous, and now you’re stooped and weak,
When I tried so hard to keep you from becoming an antique.

My reflection’s eyes twinkled as she solemnly replied,
You’re looking at the gift wrap and not the jewel inside.

A living gem and precious of unimagined worth,
Unique and true, the real you, the only you on earth.

The years that spoil your gift-wrap with other things more cruel,
Should purify and strengthen, and polish up that jewel

So, focus your attention on the inside, not the out,
On being kinder, wiser, more content, and more devout.

Then, when your gift wrap is stripped away, your jewel will be set free,
To radiate God’s glory throughout eternity.

Using Glyph Shortcuts in Your Design Software
HAVE NO FEAR: SHORTCUTS ARE HERE!

431-1.jpg

When you are building an intricate design, you may notice some typographic font features (from bullets and em dashes to tildes and copyright symbols) can’t be found on your keyboard.

Have no fear! Your design software makes these irregular characters (called glyphs) simple to add or retrieve. For example, Adobe InDesign has collected many of these characters and displayed them in an easily-accessible flyout panel. Quark offers several keyboard shortcuts as well.

Here are some shortcuts to save you time.

Adobe Shortcuts

When using Adobe, grab the Type menu and pull up the “Insert Special Character” submenu. Here you can choose from five more submenus: symbols, markers, hyphens and dashes, quotation marks, and “other.” From these categories, you can insert items like bullet characters, trademark symbols, smart (or curly) quotes, and more. To see all the characters in a font, use the Glyphs panel, and if you frequently access the same glyphs, you can save them as glyph sets.

Quark Shortcuts

In Quark, you can insert a special character from the menu bar following these steps:

  1. Choose Utilities > Insert Character >Special or Utilities > Insert Character > Nonbreaking Special.
  2. Choose the special character you want to insert on your page, or to view the symbols for invisible characters, choose View > Invisibles.
  3. To insert a special character using the Glyphs palette, choose Window > Glyphs. Double-click on the glyph to insert it into your text.

There are also handy keyboard shortcuts for inserting glyphs and special characters directly into your design. Here are just a few:

Want to reduce stress and pick up the pace? While these shortcuts take a bit of practice to master, they’ll increase both the efficiency and excellence of your next masterpiece!

The Mighty Deminar
A GREAT WAY TO OFFER A CUSTOMIZED PRODUCT DEMO

While the term “deminar” may be unfamiliar, the concept isn’t. A deminar is simply a product demo offered in an online webinar format.

Deminars are a great way to offer a customized product demo while also answering customer questions. While many businesses are limiting in-person contact to avoid the spread of COVID-19, a deminar gives you the ability not just to tell your audience what your product does, but you can actually demonstrate it live via video, so your audience can see how your product works and learn how it can benefit them.

Custom deminars should be tailored for your customer’s specific needs. It is helpful to request background information in advance, so you can show them how your product will solve a specific problem. Deminars can also be recorded so attendees can share with other decision-makers at their business.

If you’d like help promoting custom deminars with a postcard campaign or other print marketing, we’d love to help!

VIP Discount Cards
SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION AND KEEP LOYAL CUSTOMERS COMING BACK

VIP discount cards are a great way to show your appreciation and keep your most valuable customers coming back to your business again and again. Not only do they offer front-of-mind awareness, but they also make loyal customers feel special and valued by your company.

VIP discount cards can be offered in a variety of ways. For example, they can be provided as a reward for a specific number of purchases or to celebrate loyal customer anniversaries.

VIP discount cards can be mailed as a postcard campaign featuring different discounts each month or laminated as a wallet-sized card that is re-used again and again, with a standard discount or a list of available discounts for upcoming months. For example, in June, receive a 10% discount on any purchase. In July, buy one XX, get one XX 50% off.

VIP discount cards are not only a great marketing tool to build your business, but they also help develop relationships with customers and incentivize loyal customers to work towards earning VIP status.

If you’d like help creating the perfect VIP discount card for your business, give us a call today! Remember, other printers may be nearby, but nobody comes close.

Tips to Avoid Printing Delays
ISSUES TO AVOID WHICH CAN CAUSE PRINTING DELAYS

We know that deadlines are critical when it comes to your printing projects. Here are a few of the most common design issues to avoid, which can cause printing delays:

  • Low-resolution images. The proper resolution for images for print is 300 DPI (dots per inch). Here’s a quick and easy way to determine the maximum size that an image can be printed at: simply divide the number of pixels in the image by 300. For example, an image 480 x 270 pixels divided by 300 = 1.6 x .9. Therefore, the largest size of this image should be printed is 1.6″ x .9″. If you increase the size, the image will lose resolution, and the image would become blurry.

  • Missing bleeds. “Bleed” is a printing term used to describe the part of the design that extends past the cut line, leaving no white margin.

  • RGB instead of CMYK. To avoid dramatic color differences between your on-screen and print designs, build out your designs in CMYK color mode first. It’s also recommended to request a printed proof of your design to check the colors in print.

  • Text and graphics near edges. To ensure that text and graphics aren’t cut off during printing, they should be positioned within a safety margin, ensuring an adequate distance from the edges.

  • Fonts aren’t embedded or outlined. Once your document is finalized, convert all text/fonts to vector by creating outlines. To do this, highlight your text, and click Text>Create outlines. Remember, outlined text is no longer editable, so you’ll want to save a copy of your original design in case you need to make edits.

If you’d like help with your next printing project, our creative team would love to bring your ideas to life. Give us a call or stop by today!
